Brevn, by Hyperfocused Labs
Effective date: October 14, 2026
Brevn is a focus timer for iPhone, with a Mac app to come. You start a session, optionally answer two short questions when it ends, and over time Brevn shows when, and for how long, you focus best. This policy explains what data Brevn handles, where it goes, and the choices you have.
The short version: your sessions stay on your device unless you sign in, in which case they are kept in your Brevn account so your devices agree. Health readings go to your account only if you turn that on. If you leave an email address to use Brevn Pro while it cannot be bought, we keep that address, whether or not you have an account, to send you news about Brevn Pro, until you ask us to stop. We use usage analytics to improve the app; they never include what you type or your Health readings. We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
You can use Brevn without signing in. Your sessions, check-in answers, notes, parked thoughts, tags, caffeine log, experiments and settings are stored only on your device. The one exception is an email address you choose to leave for the Brevn Pro list (below).
If you sign in with Apple or Google, we store:
This is stored so your sessions are the same on every device you sign in on. It is stored with Supabase (in the United States, region us-west-1), protected so that only your account can read it, and sent over encrypted connections.
When Brevn starts, and from time to time while it is in use, it asks our server whether any feature is switched off for now (for example because something isn't working as it should) and whether a newer version is out. This happens whether or not you have an account. The request says nothing about who you are, your account or your sessions, and carries no identifier. Like any request an iPhone app makes, it includes the app's version, the iOS version and your language. Supabase, which answers it, sees your IP address and keeps it for a short time in its request logs, as it does for every request the app makes to it. We don't keep it anywhere else or use it for anything.
During a session Brevn reads the phone's motion sensor to tell whether the phone stayed at rest. Only a summary is kept with the session (how much of it the phone was still, and how many times it was picked up), never the raw motion.
If you allow it, Brevn reads sleep analysis, heart rate variability and resting heart rate from Apple Health, to set them beside your sessions. Brevn never writes to Apple Health.
Brevn sends usage events to PostHog (in the United States) so we can see which features are used and where the app fails. Events record what happened in the app: for example that a session started or finished, its planned and actual length, category, number of tags, breaks and distraction taps, how still the phone stayed, your check-in and sleepiness answers as numbers, the outcome of a morning reading, purchases, joining the Brevn Pro list, and settings you changed. Every event also carries the app version, device model, iOS version, language and time zone, and error reports add the error message. Events never contain anything you typed (session names, notes, tags, parked thoughts, where you left off) or Health readings.
Without an account, events carry a random identifier created on your device. If you sign in, events are linked to your account identifier (not your email address). As with any internet service, PostHog sees your IP address when events arrive. Brevn has PostHog discard it, so it is not stored with events or used to estimate where you are.
Only if you choose to share an experiment's result, Brevn posts the experiment's name from Brevn's own list, its result and session counts. Community results are public. Paired results are stored with the pair code and can be read by anyone using the app's data service, not only your partner. Neither carries your name, your account or anything you typed.
When Brevn Pro is on sale, it is bought through Apple. We don't receive your payment details; the app checks with Apple on your device which purchases you own. Until then, see The Brevn Pro list.
While Brevn Pro cannot be bought yet, leaving an email address is how you turn Pro on, at no charge. By doing so you agree to receive news about Brevn Pro. This is optional: without it Brevn works as before, without the Pro features. If you leave an address, we store:
We use the address only to send you news about Brevn Pro, including when payment starts. We don't sell it or share it for advertising. It is handled only by Supabase, which stores it in the United States, and by the email service we send from, which will be named under "Who we share data with" before the first email goes out. The app can add an address but cannot read the list back, and the address is not kept on your device; the app only remembers that you joined. As with any internet service, Supabase sees your IP address when the app sends the address; we don't store it with the list.
The address itself is never included in analytics. Analytics record only that you joined, which part of Pro you were opening, and whether Pro on your device is paid or free.
Emails come from Hyperfocused Labs. Every one will say how to stop them, and you can also email us at any time to be taken off. We don't check that a typed address belongs to the person who typed it: if you get an email from us that you didn't ask for, tell us and we will remove the address. Being taken off the list does not turn Pro off on a device where it is already on.
We use these service providers to run Brevn, and they handle data only on our behalf, under terms that require the same protection of your data as this policy:
We don't sell personal data, share it for advertising, or use it to train AI models. We would disclose data only if required by law.
You can use Brevn without an account, withdraw Health consent at any time, and delete your account in the app. Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of your account data or your Brevn Pro list entry, to correct it, or to delete it, by emailing us. You can also object to analytics by emailing us, and we will delete the events linked to your account or device. Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, UK or California) you may have further rights under local law, and you may complain to your data protection authority. You can withdraw your consent to the Brevn Pro list at any time by asking to be taken off; that does not affect emails already sent. We process account data to provide the service you asked for, Health data and the Brevn Pro list with your consent, and analytics in our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and improving it.
Brevn is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Brevn shows patterns from your own sessions as a productivity tool. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose anything. If you have concerns about your health, sleep or concentration, please see a qualified professional.
We will post changes on this page with a new effective date, and tell you in the app if a change affects how your data is used.
